Kaz Brekker
—; I would have come for you. And if I couldn't walk, I'd crawl to you, and no matter how broken we were, we'd fight our way out together-knives drawn, pistols blazing. Because that's what we do. We never stop fighting.
About portrayal.
A heavily independent portrayal of Kaz Brekker from Shadow and Bone/Six of Crows. Show and book influenced mixed in with my own influences. May or may not follow specific canon/canon themes from show and book.
Background: Kaz and his Crows.
AU version note:Kaz had never met Inej in this timeline/version. Although if there's an Inej that wishes to interact, I'm not going to deny that and use it as a separate interaction(s).Kaz and Jesper:Kaz had saved Jesper after he was jumped in an alleyway due to incurred debts from his gambling addiction. Since then he's been indebted to Kaz and have done jobs here and there for the Dregs. Jesper had quickly become one of Kaz’s most trusted companions (Crow). Kaz being privy to information also had known of his ‘secret’ of being a Grisha. As he had mentioned to Jesper before, he never misses when he shoots and the fact that he's fixed his cane on a few occasions when a Fabrikator was needed gave him away. That being said, Kaz told Jesper that he does not wish to exploit him for his little secret and that's just between them. Jesper, after that conversation had since been more at ease with knowing that Kaz meant what he said.Kaz has his own secrets, namely his haphephobia. Jesper never understood why Kaz recoiled from accidental touching or being touched, but he wasn't one to question his boss on the matter.Kaz and Nina Zenik:Later Kaz is informed of a Heartrender working at The House of the White Rose, not as a skin trader but using her Grisha abilities. Kaz also got word that Pekka Rollins was going to try and recruit Nina to work for him but Kaz beat him to the punch. Nina started working for Kaz whenever he needed her and has become an integral part of the Dregs/Crows. Nina was also trying to make a life for herself in Ketterdam and to get her man, Matthais out of Hellgate. Kaz agreed to help her at some point with that.Kaz and Wylan:At some point in the streets of Ketterdam, Kaz found Wylan. Struggling to make ends meet, he ended tasking the merchling to make explosives. At first he refused but later changed his mind.Kaz, although he doesn't express it, does care about his Crows and is always looking out for them in some fashion.
How Kaz met Mira: A Two Man Job Gone Astray.
One of Kaz's trusted Crow Club employees had come up to him and Jesper one evening when the two of them were eating supper to let him know of a job that he heard of while standing at the door. This of course had piqued Kaz’s interest and asked the man to find out more if possible and to return back to him if he knew anything more.It was a couple of hours later that his employee had returned with a little bit more information; Jesper wasn't sure of things at first but later changed his tune once he got more details from Kaz. Kaz had also found out that his rival was interested in the job as well and relished in the fact he could potentially snatch it away from him. Jesper had helped Kaz snag a needed Heartrender; it wasn't Nina as she was familiar to Pekka as he had attempted to recruit her to the Dime Lions before Kaz got to her. They brought the the needed Heartrender to the gates of Dreesen’s estate. Kaz being a smooth talker, bargained with the man on watch to let them in before the set midnight meeting time. After speaking with the mercher about the job that he had up for grabs, Kaz agreed to take the job to capture the Sun Summoner for Dreesen and took the opportunity away from his biggest rival in the city, Pekka Rollins. Any chance Kaz got to hurt him was his way of getting vengeance for his brother.Needless to say once Pekka found out Kaz was the one who grabbed the job from him, he wasn't too thrilled. Pekka and his thugs had made their way to the Crow Club and ambushed Kaz in his office where he threatened to kill him if he didn't step away from the job. Although he didn't give him a direct answer, it didn't mean he was going to give up on a profitable opportunity. He and Jesper went on ahead to get it done, or attempted to at least. One million kruge split between them both was an opportunity Kaz just couldn't pass up. They just needed to find a specific person that could get them through The Fold and back. Lucky Kaz has his ears to the ground and found the person he needed.Kaz and Jesper got their affairs sorted, especially Kaz since he had more to lose if he was not successful and they got this adventure started.Things didn't go as planned..Kaz and Jesper managed to get through The Fold unscathed and found their way into the Little Palace after some strategic planning and maneuvering on Kaz’s part. However days prior he found out what Arken, their guy that had got them though, was truly all about and his whole role in agreeing to this job.Kaz had worked out that Arken wanted to kill the Sun Summoner for General Zlatan since she was now a threat. Kaz later revealing that to Jesper when they ended up in an unlikely place together.*****After their failed attempt to escort Alina to her ‘dinner’, The Darkling had intercepted and decided to take her instead. The pair had gone off to one of his rooms Kaz and Jesper observed as they followed. As Kaz was thinking of another plan, Jesper immediately noticed that two Inferni were watching them both with suspicion and had soon gave chase. After he and Jesper had split up to throw the two Inferni off, the two Crows ended up finding each other again and met up in a restricted area of the grounds, one that neither of them recalled on the map that they had committed to memory. Now that they weren't being chased Jesper had backtracked with Kaz and they found a hidden door that was locked? Sealed off? Kaz had Jesper use his Grisha abilities to unseal it. That didn't unlock it and Kaz went to inspect the intricate locking mechanism, utilizing his many talents, which in this case was his lockpicking skills. He was successful.Behind that intricately locked door they got a surprise; it was there that they surprisingly came across Mira, a young woman chained up. Kaz only assumed she was Grisha. The Crow duo had surprisingly befriended her rather easily and after they all made their introductions and talked for a bit, Kaz genuinely started to feel sorry for her. He didn't notice right away that she was chained since the room was dimly lit. Using his lockpicking skills once again, he managed to free her from them. Although he didn't fully understand why he felt compelled to do such a thing, perhaps it was the fact that he hated anyone being treated like a captive, in her case she literally was one. He never liked people being subservient to anyone.Once he freed Mira and they talked more, Kaz made the suggestion that she should come back to Ketterdam with him and Jesper. It was a safer option to him and it gave her much needed distance between her and The Darkling.During their attempt to escape again, they were once again being chased down by the Inferni twins from earlier, Mira helped slow them until Kaz was able to find a way out. It felt like there were many obstacles getting in his way but he was triumphant in getting through them. Once they thought they were free, they'd managed to run into Baghra, The Darkling's mother. She had come out of the shadows... to help them..At first he wasn't sure about her but when she took the Inferni out with The Darkling's power, he knew for a fact that she really did want to help them all escape. However before they all parted Baghra told him to take care of Mira because she’s a very special woman and gave him a particular almost a knowing look. It confused Kaz because what did she mean and why did she give him that kind of look?Little did Kaz or Jesper for that matter know, Mira indeed is a special Grisha and that he had his own secret, one that that would surprise even him. This secret would be beneficial to Mira that's for certain and Kaz has been completely unaware of it due to his own discomfort and trauma.
Relationship: Communication via simple touch can transmit so much of us in just one minute. Like a painting or a piece of music.
Kaz and Mira end up becoming a couple after they return to Ketterdam. She earns his trust enough to help him cope with certain things along their journey, which eventually leads him to finally open up about his traumatic experience about his brother. Which she helps him through. Kaz will certainly raise hell for her once he develops further feelings towards her because he will be damned if another person he cares so deeply about is taken from him.Currently the two are already starting to develop an unexplainable bond, due to the need to be near one another and his odd desire to comfort her even though he's fighting internally with his PTSD about it. Kaz is also really confused as to why he's feeling and behaving like this as it is normally not like him. Will add/fix this up once the relationship develops more.
